Rangers star Davis backed for player of the year

Published 31/03/2010

PFA Scotland chief executive Fraser Wishart has backed Rangers midfielder Steven Davis for his organisation's player of the year award.

Wishart today launched the voting process for the awards, sponsored by Cheque Centre, along with last year's winner, Celtic midfielder Scott Brown.

Former Rangers player Wishart believes the recipient of the main award should this year come from Ibrox.

“My player of the year would be Steven Davis,” Wishart said.

“When Rangers have played some sparkling football and scored a lot of goals, he has been the key man. He just goes about his job without any fuss. He has deceptive pace, he is very quick.

“ His touch on the ball has been terrific. If you look back over Rangers' best performances, Steven Davis has been the outstanding player.”
