Gers boss Warburton swoops to secure Forrester deal

By Andy Newport

Rangers have moved early to tie up their first January signing after swooping for Doncaster Rovers' Harry Forrester - a day before the transfer window even opens.

The Sky Bet League One outfit have confirmed they have accepted an undisclosed fee for the 24-year-old winger, who has signed an initial six-month deal.

Forrester has worked with Gers boss Mark Warburton before at both Watford and Brentford but has been allowed to leave the Keepmoat Stadium after dropping out of Rovers boss Darren Ferguson's plans.

The former Aston Villa youngster - who once knocked back a move to Ajax - has previous experience of playing in Scotland following an eight-game loan stint with Kilmarnock in 2010.

He tweeted: "Absolutely delighted to sign a deal with @RangersFC can't wait to put on the famous blue jersey. Thanks for all the welcoming messages."

Warburton - speaking before it had been confirmed - revealed his high hopes for the addition, who will sign officially today.

He said: "I know Harry very well, I know him from Watford. We are working with Doncaster, who are being tremendous with us in that respect.

"He has the quality on the pitch. Off the pitch he's a good lad. He will add some quality to our squad."

However, Forrester will have to wait to make his debut as the game at Dumbarton tomorrow is set to come before he receives international clearance.
