Rangers defender Darren McGregor urges team to turn up heat on title rivals Hearts
Rangers defender Darren McGregor insists Rangers can turn the heat up on title rivals Hearts if they continue to improve.
The Ibrox men put on their best display of the season on Friday night as they swept Raith Rovers away with a 4-0 win at Stark's Park.
The victory moved them to the top of the Scottish Championship table, but Hearts leapfrogged them again with a 0-0 draw at Dumbarton on Saturday.
However, McGregor believes their Fife triumph may start the Jambos' nerves jittering.
He said: "Hearts have had the best start to the season they could possibly have imagined.
"They are a young squad but Robbie Neilson has got them playing well. It will be interesting to see when the shoe is on the other foot and they are chasing us.
"I'd be surprised if they went the whole season unbeaten, so it will be interesting to see how they react when they suffer a defeat.
"But we need to go out and win every week ourselves. But if we perform like we did on Friday we won't be far away."
Rangers claimed victory thanks to goals from Nicky Clark, Ian Black, Nicky Law and Lee McCulloch, and now go into tomorrow's League Cup tie with Inverness in buoyant mood.
"We passed the ball well and to get four goals is great," added former St Mirren defender McGregor. "We could have got a few more but we are slowly gelling together.
"If we perform like that every week that will put smiles on the fans' faces and keep them happy."
