Ally McCoist insists his players deserve more credit for delivering the Irn-Bru Third Division title after Charles Green reiterated his claim that the current crop are "the worst Rangers team ever."

The Ibrox chief executive hit the headlines when he made the comment in a radio interview several weeks ago, before opting to stand by the statement in a newspaper article yesterday.

Rangers wrapped up the championship last week, with McCoist claiming the achievement was the most difficult title he had been involved in as a player, assistant boss or manager with the Glasgow giants.

Responding to Green's remarks after yesterday's 4-1 win over Queen's Park at Hampden, McCoist (pictured) said: "It's also the best Rangers team Charles has ever seen, to be honest.

"Charles is relatively new to Rangers. In my opinion, it's not the worst Rangers team.

"I'm not sure how many titles Charles has won in his career but I've been very fortunate to win 14 at our football club, including as assistant manager.

"That title we were all involved in just there is the hardest one.

"I know what it takes to win a title. It doesn't matter what division you are in, it takes a special group of people and talent and hard work.

A double from David Templeton and goals from Fraser Aird and Kane Hemmings secured the win at Hampden.
