Now United U18s on way to Coleraine
Jose Mourinho has moved to further renew Manchester United's links with SuperCupNI, formerly the Milk Cup, by sending a talent-packed U18 side to face Northern Ireland U18s in a tournament curtain-raiser next month.
The Old Trafford future stars will be led by United's U18s coach Kieran McKenna, a former Northern Ireland youth team player and Milk Cup old boy, from Fermanagh.
Coleraine Showgrounds, the Cup's historic home, will host the challenge game Saturday, July 22, ahead of the tournament kick off on Monday, July 24.
As a Spurs player, Kieran captained Northern Ireland in the Milk Cup Elite competition in 2005 and played for his county in the Junior tournament four years earlier.
The game, likely to be a sellout, is a further boost for SuperCupNI following the announcement last week of United's return after a two year absence, being represented next month in the junior section and, ironically, drawn against McKenna's native Fermanagh.
Mourinho's commitment and endorsement of the tournament he previously used a testing ground for Chelsea teams, under Brendan Rodgers, could also assist the organisers in selling the event to a headline sponsor, lacking since Dale Farm's association ended two years ago.
