Bestie's 'six shooter' shirt goes under hammer

THE football shirt worn by George Best in one of his greatest on-pitch performances is going under the hammer this week.

THE football shirt worn by George Best in one of his greatest on-pitch performances is going under the hammer this week.

The late football legend famously came back from a six-week suspension to score six goals in Manchester United's 8-2 demolition of Northampton Town in the fifth round of the FA Cup in 1970.

Christie's estimates the jersey Best wore during the game will fetch up to £30,000 when it goes on sale on Wednesday as part of a football memorabilia auction in London.

Kim Book, then Northampton Town's goalkeeper, last year said "not even the Berlin Wall" could have stopped Best that day.

Also going on sale is the shirt worn by Brazilian Rivelino at the 1970 World Cup final.

The world record for the highest price paid for a football shirt at auction is £157,750 for Pele's 1970 World Cup final jersey.
