UEFA trophies to be presented on the pitch
UEFA have announced that the trophies for this season's European competitions will be presented to the winning captains on the pitch this season.
Real Madrid collected the Champions League trophy last season in the stand - a trait, of course, made famous in the old Wembley Stadium's Royal Box.
This season though, UEFA President Aleksander Čeferin has made the decision that the Champions League, Women’s Champions League and Europa League trophies will all be presented on the playing surface.
The Europa League final is the first of the continental finals, taking place between Manchester United and Ajax at the Friends Arena in Stockholm next Wednesday (May 24). The Women’s Champions League final will be played between Manchester City and Paris at the Cardiff City Stadium on June 1 and the Champions League decider between Juventus and Real Madrid at the National Stadium of Wales on 3 June.
Locally, since the opening of the new National Stadium at Windsor Park, the Irish Cup trophy has been presented in the south stand in both of the last two seasons - to Glenavon in 2016 and Linfield earlier this month.
