Coleman leg break leaves O'Neill gutted
Republic of Ireland pocketed a precious point in their fight to make the 2018 World Cup finals in Russia last night but boss Martin O'Neill was devastated after the horror injury suffered by his skipper Seamus Coleman.
Neil Taylor was sent off for an ugly second-half challenge on the Everton ace but the Republic couldn't find a winner in the scoreless draw against Wales at the Aviva Stadium.
The hosts maintained their record of not losing a home qualifier since September 2013 but O'Neill was upset at the injury to Coleman, which was a broken leg.
"It's a bad break," said the former Northern Ireland captain. "He's a fantastic player and character. It's a major blow for the lad, his club and us.
"Apparently it wasn't the best challenge in the world - I haven't seen it. He's gone to hospital. I saw his reaction immediately and it didn't look good. He was holding his leg up and it didn't look good."
