Donegal minor football team manager Sean Paul Barrett certainly believes in telling it like it is.

His team may be through to the Ulster championship final in which they will meet Derry on July 17 but Barrett insists they still have work to do before then.

"I think in our win over Antrim and again in this victory over Monaghan we showed great character but we conceded big scores in both games and this is something we have to look at," maintains Barrett.

Ahead by 2-7 to 0-5 at the break Donegal appeared set to drive home their advantage, but suddenly found their backs to the wall as Monaghan closed the gap. But when Odhran McFadden-Ferry fired in their third goal, they breathed more freely at 3-9 to 1-8. Monaghan, though, dug deep with Conor Leonard pilfering a goal and Garland landing a brace of points, but Donegal eased over the line
