Feel-good factor sweeps Donegal after play-off win
NHL Division 2 Play-off: It's not often that the Donegal hurlers steal the limelight from their football brethren.
But today 'the beautiful game', as the purists describe it, enjoys renewed status in the county.
For not only have Ray Durack's side retained their place in a hugely-competitive Division 2B of the Allianz League but the county minor side have reached the Ulster League final following a shock 3-18 to 1-10 victory over Down.
"It's great to be staying in Division 2B. We know we will only improve by playing against the best opposition we can encounter and we want to improve our position even further," insists Durack.
Donegal's pluck and commitment underpinned their 2-16 to 2-12 play-off win over Tyrone. Goals from Ciaran Matthewson and John O'Loughlin put Donegal in the driving seat before Conor Grugan and Damien Casey, from a penalty, netted to trigger a Tyrone revival.
But with Sean McVeigh, Lee Henderson and Ronan McDermott continuing to pick off points, Donegal were able to produce a searing finish.
