A late Matthew Fitzpatrick goal secured the points as Antrim overcame Wexford at a wet and windy Corrigan Park yesterday.

James Laverty and Tomas McCann gave the hosts the lead with points, but they were pegged back when Donal Shanley and Niall Hughes scored at the other end to tie the game.

The Saffrons were in control though and they held a deserved 0-7 to 0-4 lead when the half-time whistle blew.

While Niall McKeever extended their lead after the break, it was backs to the wall for the rest of the half for Antrim as Shanley ate into their lead with frees to leave just one in it going into the closing stages.

However, the Wexford full-forward missed two very scorable frees late on and the second was gathered by Antrim goalkeeper Chris Kerr who launched the ball forward and led to Michael McCann making a run up the left, passing to Niblock who in turn fed Fitzpatrick in front of goal who steadied and buried the ball to the net to seal a vital win in Antrim's promotion quest.
