Carvill points way as Armagh turn the corner

Armagh 0-23 Louth 2-9

By John Campbell

Relief rather than delight consumed Armagh manager Sylvester McConnell after watching his side progress into the quarter-finals of the Nicky Rackard Cup at a sparsely populated Athletic Grounds.

A string of recent depressing results had sent the Orchard County into the contest more in hope than anticipation but the ebullient McConnell now believes his side can banish the gloom and make an impact in the last eight.

"The important and positive thing is that we are getting players back from injury," said McConnell.

The sides were deadlocked at 1-6 to 0-9 at half-time, Gavan Kerrigan's 32nd minute goal having propped up the visitors' challenge, but David Carvill's unerring eye and Conor Corvan's opportunism ushered Armagh into a more comfortable place as they compiled 16 points between them.
