Keogan feels the heat for Dubs visit
Saturday, March 01, 2008
These are trying times for Cavan manager Donal Keogan.
His side has already fallen to Armagh and Monaghan in the National League
and now they must face a Dublin side anxious to regain their momentum after
their scheduled game against the striking Cork side was ruled out.
In their opening contest, the Dubs disposed of Westmeath and Paul Caffrey's
side will now travel into Breffni territory confident that they can chalk up
win number two.
Keogan will be laying his plans to prevent this, though.
And that will entail ensuring that his side stops conceding soft scores.
"I felt we did not protect our possession sufficiently against Armagh
and Monaghan and we gave away scores as a consequence. Also the physicality
which both teams brought to these games troubled us and we must be ready to
meet fire with fire against the Dubs," insists Keogan.
While several old, familiar faces remain in his side, players like Martin
Reilly, Eddie O'Reilly, John McCutcheon and Barry Watters have come in to
add an element of youth and vitality.
They will be in alongside the more seasoned Dermot McCabe (if fit), Mark
McKeever, Anthony Forde, Jason Reilly and Keith Fannin.
But Cavan will be put to the test by a Dublin side keen to build up a head
of steam in advance of the Leinster championship.
