Barry Murphy back with Cork

Former Cork great Jimmy Barry Murphy is to be the county's new hurling manager.

The county board revealed in a statement on Thursday that Barry Murphy, who led the Rebels to an All-Ireland title in 1999 during a previous spell as manager, will be given a three-year term.

His appointment is subject to ratification by the county committee at its next meeting on September 6.

He will succeed Denis Walsh, whose tenure was brought to an end by the board earlier this week.
