Barton hands his Oak Leaf starlets a chance to dazzle

By Declan Bogue

Derry manager Damian Barton is certainly going to use January's Dr McKenna Cup campaign to experiment and have a look at the youth at his disposal if Sunday's starting line-up against Armagh is anything to go by.

Teenager Ben McKinless begins in goal ahead of regular netminder Thomas Mallon, while a host of others join him in making their senior competitive debut.

Oisin Hegarty and Oisin Duffy in the full-back line, Patrick Coney and Jack Doherty at half-back, Gavin O'Neill in midfield and Michael Warnock in the half-forward line will all make their debut.

There is experience on the bench, however, with Mark Lynch, Conor Nevin and Mark Craig all named as substitutes for the first-round match.

Cavan manager Mattie McGleenan has insisted his intention is to name his strongest team for the visit of Tyrone to Kingspan Breffni Park, but it is understood that Dara McVeety, Conor Moynagh and Gearoid McKiernan are not going to make it through various injuries.

DERRY (v Armagh): B McKinless; O Hegarty, O Duffin, P Hagan; P Coney, J Doherty, N Forester; G O'Neill, A McLaughlin; M Warnock, N Loughlin, C McWilliams; R Bell, E McGuckin, B Heron .
