Casey's award a big boost for Tyrone's promotion bid

Published 11/04/2015

NHL DIVISION THREE: Tyrone captain Damien Casey will go into today's Allianz Hurling League Division 3 promotion showdown with Donegal fortified by his capture of the latest Ulster GAA Writers' Association monthly merit award.

Casey's stunning scoring exploits during March have had much to do with Tyrone's surge into today's important tie.

He landed 31 points in three games including one pointed free from 100 yards as well as providing inspirational leadership as skipper.

"Division Three hurling is not recognised very much and it would just be great to move up a division," says Casey.

"Getting this writers' award is a further lift not just for myself but for the entire Tyrone team. It's good to see our collective effort being recognised in this way.

"Obviously there is a strong focus on football in Tyrone but it's good to see hurling coming a little more into the limelight and a win against Donegal would, I feel, be a big boost for the sport in the county."
