Coney turns his back on Sydney Swans
Tuesday, 6 January 2009
Tyrone teenage sensation Kyle Coney has confirmed he is turning down a two-year contract with Sydney Swans.
News of Coney’s decision to turn down Swans’ lucrative offer — having spent six weeks with the Australian club — is a major coup for Tyrone boss Mickey Harte who has been a longtime critic of the hybrid game. The Ardboe teenager was regarded as one of the hottest prospects on the GAA scene last year when he was the star of the Tyrone minor team which claimed the All-Ireland title.
Coney said: “When I came home for Christmas and met up with family and friends I realised how much I missed home and I'm not going back to Australia.”
