Armagh stun Kerry

Saturday, 11 February 2012

Armagh shocked Kerry with a 2-8 to 0-10 win at Tralee to claim the NFL Division One points.

Brian Mallon's tenth minute goal set the Orchard men on their way, and they led by 1-4 to 0-3 at half-time.

John Kingham plundered a second goal two minutes after the restart, and despite points from Bryan Sheehan and Declan O'Sullivan, the Kingdom were unable to make up the deficit.

Mayo and Dublin will have to meet again after their match at McHale Park was abandoned at half-time due to heavy fog.

The Dubs were ahead by 0-8 to 0-5 when a halt was called, with Diarmuid Connolly, Paul Brogan, Tomas Quinn and Kevin McManamon on target, but they did have defender James McCarthy sent off on a straight red card.

Offaly champions Coolderry booked their place in the All-Ireland Club SHC final with a 3-16 to 0-17 win over Gort of Galway.

Damian Murray fired in a 1-8 salvo to help the Leinster champions take control at the Gaelic Gronds in Limerick. Gerry Quinn hit 10 Gort points, but it was Coolderry's ability to hit the net, with Cathal Parlon and Eoin Ryan also bagging goals, which dictated the outcome.

Their opponents in the St Patrick's Day decider will be Antrim champions Loughgiel, who defeated Na Piarsaigh of Limerick by 0-27 to 2-13 in an extra-time thriller at Parnell Park.

Antrim star Liam Watson scored 15 points as the Shamrocks qualified for their second All-Ireland final.

Loughgiel led by 0-11 to 1-5 at the break, and were six ahead before substitute Robert Sheehan grabbed a stoppage time goal, with Kevin Downes equalising. Tied at 0-18 to 2-12 at the end of normal time, and Watson scored six more in extra-time to seal Loughgiel's St Patrick's Day meeting with Coolderry of Offaly.

You might have thought that ruling yourself out of the first two games of football's second most important international tournament with a shocking flash of irresponsibility was quite enough to focus the mind of the nation's most gifted player.
