Counties mull substitutes decision

Published 29/09/2010

Counties in Leinster are to consider an experiment with interchange substitutes during the O'Byrne Cup next January.

The issue is at the discussion stage with counties. Interchange substitutes are used in International Rules and now the Leinster Council want to see if the free transfer of players in and out of the action would work in Gaelic football.

It is proposed that a maximum of five players would be allowed to interchange in each half during the pre-season competition. Leinster counties will decide whether or not to support such an experiment at a meeting in November.
