Diarmuid Connolly escapes punishment

Tuesday, 31 January 2012

Dublin's Diarmuid Connolly looks set to escape any sanction for his challenge on Kildare full-back Ciaran Fitzpatrick during the recent O'Byrne Cup semi-final.

Leinster's Competition Controls Committee have examined footage of the incident and it is understood they have decided not to lay any charge against Connolly who had a red card rescinded prior to last year's All-Ireland final against Kerry.

Connolly's knee made contact with Fitzpatrick with no ball in sight and the collision drew an angry response from Kildare players around their colleague.

Meanwhile, the O'Byrne Cup final between Kildare and DCU has been refixed for Friday, February 17 at O'Moore Park, Portlaoise.
