Down hurlers set to Ring up a bonus

Down hurlers make the long trek to Tralee tomorrow evening for their Christy Ring Cup clash with Kerry.

Last time out the Mourne side held out for a hard-earned victory over Derry at Newry.

Gareth Johnson was again among the goals for the winners and manager Jim McKernan will be hoping for more of the same.

Only last month Down won the league game against Kerry who will be anxious to gain revenge.

Derry are also in action against Carlow in Swatragh and they must fancy their chances of progressing to the next round especially if Sam Dodds can reproduce his form of the Down match when he finished with a personal haul of 16 points.

Sunday sees Donegal entertaining Armagh in the Ulster senior hurling championship in Letterkenny.

Both sides were successful last weekend, Donegal easing to victory over Tyrone, while Armagh were equally comfortable in beating old rivals Monaghan despite being without the gifted Declan Coulter.

Former Monaghan star Eamon McEneaney, now manager of Louth, faces a nervous afternoon when his men cross swords with Carlow in Croke Park in the Leinster football championship.
