Down star O’Reilly goes to Australia

Published 30/10/2009

Down half-forward Jamie O'Reilly is the latest Gaelic footballer to sign up for an Aussie Rules career, after inking a two-year contract with Richmond.

The Mourne County's U-21 star flew out to join their pre-season training yesterday and was joined by Antrim’s Tomas McCann, who has gone to Richmond on a three-week trial, which O'Reilly completed in Melbourne back in July.

“As a young person it's too good an opportunity to pass up,” said O'Reilly, who admitted the current economic climate encouraged him to quit his degree course at Queen’s.
