Fermanagh cup clash postponed

Published 13/01/2011

Tyrone's Dr McKenna Cup game against Fermanagh on Sunday has been postponed until after the funeral of Michaela McAreavey.

The county board revealed that the decision had been taken following confirmation that the body of Michaela, daughter of team manager Mickey Harte, is to return home from Mauritius on Friday.

"Obviously we have been taking the wishes of the manager and the Harte family into account," said county chairman Ciaran McLaughlin.

"Now that we know what the arrangements are, that Michaela's remains are going to be back at home, and there will be a wake taking place at the time that the match would have been played, we considered the new situation.

"We approached the Ulster Council with a view to putting the match back, and they agreed that we could do that, that they would accede to our request."
