Little sisters seal final spot for Erne

By Staff Reporter

The Fermanagh menfolk might not have had much cause for celebration this year but the ladies game within the county are certainly showing the way at national level.

The Ernesiders, inspired by the supremely talented Little sisters Caroline and Sharon from Lisnaskea, blasted their way into the All-Ireland Ladies Intermediate Football final against Down when they overcame Roscommon at the weekend.

Their brother Mark may initially have brought the family name to the fore in the county's colours some years ago but right now his siblings are very much in the spotlight. Sharon helped herself to 3-3 from play, with Caroline adding 2-5, including a penalty goal which was supplemened by four pointed frees.

Roscommon had a 1-7 haul from Jenny Downey and two goals from Martina Freyne but that wasn't enough in a hugely-entertaining game.

The sides were level seven times but even with Joanne Doonan and Marcella Monaghan sin-binned for 10 minutes, Fermanagh still finished strongly.
