GAA chief pays tribute to Hegarty

Published 05/05/2011

GAA president Christy Cooney has led tributes to 28-year-old Cork hurler Kieran Hegarty, who died following a training session with his club.

Hegarty was in the dressing room of the Shamrocks club in Ringaskiddy when he collapsed and died despite the use of a defibrillator in efforts to resuscitate him.

"Kieran typified everything that is good about our players. He played with his club from underage level up adult grades and competing in both football and hurling and he took great enjoyment in his involvement," said Mr Cooney.

"I offer my heartfelt condolences to his family and wider circle of friends and hope that they can take solace in the support of the wider club circle at this challenging time."
