GAA community in shock over player’s sudden death

Tributes for 28-year-old Cathal Forde are being paid by the GAA community as it learned of the player’s sudden death after a hurling session in London.

Cathal collapsed at the end of a training session in Highgate where his team, Kilburn Gaels practice.

The Co Galway man, who formerly played for Gort GAA team, was warming down with fellow players including his brother Niall who said that there was no indication that the player was ill until he collapsed and was rushed to hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Cathal's former club, Gort GAA said: "Gort GAA Club wishes to pass on our deepest sympathies to the Forde family on the untimely passing of Cathal, a standing member and dedicated supporter of our club. An absolute gentleman, who will be sincerely missed, not just by the club, but by all in Gort.

"The thoughts and prayers of Gort GAA Club are with his family and friends at this sad time."
