GPA 'committed' to amateur status

The Gaelic Players Association has made a firm commitment to the amateur ethos of the GAA.

The players' body, frequently accused of pursuing a 'pay for play' agenda, has confounded its critics by adopting a proposal to enshrine the GAA's amateur standing.

At its AGM, the GPA carried the following motion: "The GPA is committed to the maintenance and protection of the amateur status of the Gaelic Athletic Association and the pursuit by the GPA of its objectives shall at all times be subject to that commitment".
