Kerry hold off IT Tralee

Monday, 30 January 2012

Kerry survived a scare in the Waterford Crystal Cup when they finished strongly to defeat the hurlers of IT Tralee by 1-20 to 1-15 at Killarney.

The students led by 1-10 to 1-9 at the interval, after Eamonn Brosnan had cancelled out Darragh O'Connell's goal

The Kingdom needed a string of late points from Shane Brick, who finished with 0-12, to set up a semi-final date with Cork.

Davy Fitzgerald marked his first game in charge of his native Clare with a runaway 29 points win over Waterford IT.

Darragh Keane, Aaron Cunningham and Eoin Hayes scored the goals in the 3-25 to 0-5 rout.

In the Walsh Cup, Galway swamped UCD by 6-25 to 1-8 at Belfield, with debutant Conor Cooney hitting 2-6.

The Tribesmen's other goals came from Joe Canning, Damien Hayes, David Burke and Iarlaith Tannion.

Meanwhile, the O'Byrne Cup football final between Kildare and DCU was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch at Newbridge.

The Kehoe Shield semi-final between Armagh Roscommon, due to be played at Athleague, also fell victim to the weather.
