Kilkenny and Cork book semi berths

Henry Shefflin fired in a 2-6 tally as Kilkenny got their All-Ireland SHC challenge back on track with a 4-16 to 1-16 win over Limerick at Semple Stadium.

But they will be without ace attacker Richie Hogan for the semi-final clash with Tipperary, following his dismissal 15 minutes from the end.

David Breen drilled in a Limerick goal, but Shefflin responded with two Kilkenny goals in the space of three minutes.

The Cats led by 2-7 to 0-9 at half-time, and added further goals through Aidan Fogarty and Colin Fennelly.

Kilkenny had Hogan sent off on 56 minutes, but staged a dominant finish to get their Liam McCarthy Cup challenge back on track

Cork will meet Galway in the other semi-final, following their 1-19 to 0-19 win over Waterford.

Jamie Coughlan blasted home a 16th minute Cork goal, but five Maurice Shanahan points led a Waterford revival.

The Rebels held a narrow 1-9 to 0-11 lead at the interval, but Pauric Mahony, John Mullane and Shanahan helped Waterford go three clear.

The Rebels' strength in depth was crucial as they outscored the Decies by seven points to one in the final five minutes, with vital cores from sub Cathal Naughton and a seventh for Pat Horgan.
