Kilkenny claim Dubs scalp

Kilkenny defeated Dublin by 5-16 to 6-12 in a National Hurling League goal-fest at Nowlan Park.

The Dubs looked as if they were to get one over on the All-Ireland champions when they had first half goals from Paul Ryan, Danny Sutcliffe and Conor McCormack.

David O'Callaghan and Sutcliffe added further three-pointers in the second half, but the Cats fought back with a Colin Fennelly goal, and won it in sensational fashion with late strikes from Richie Power and Matthew Ruth.

Tipperary kept their challenge going with a 0-31 to 2-15 win over Waterford at Nowlan Park, where Pa Bourke and Noel McGrath scored seven points each.

There was a morale-boosting success for Limerick at Wexford Park, where they defeated Wexford by 2-20 to 0-18 with the help of goals from David Breen and Niall Moran.

In football, Kerry continue to set the pace in Division One following their 0-13 to 0-11 win over Cork in the big Munster derby.

Declan O'Sullivan turned in a man of the match display, helping himself to a five points tally.

Colm McFadden was in top scoring form as Donegal handed out a 0-17 to 1-7 beating to Mayo, while Down scored a much-needed win when two late Kevin McKernan points gave them a 0-15 to 1-10 success over Dublin at Newry.
