Latton just make it

Published 14/11/2011

Glenswilly 0-09 Latton 0-10: Monaghan champions Latton recorded a narrow but deserved win in Ballybofey yesterday even though they were pushed all the way.

The Donegal club champions came from four down with minutes left to almost snatch a draw.

Glenswilly opened well with Gary McFadden pointing and Neil Gallagher doubling the lead.

Hugh McElroy opened Latton's account before Gallagher had Glenswilly two ahead again on 13 minutes. But they were not to score again until added time with Owen Lennon (2) and Shane Coyle pushing Latton in front before Caolan Kelly levelled matters at 0-4 each at the break. Latton went three clear with points from Shane Coyle, Hugh McElroy and Steven Fitzpatrick.

Joe Gibbons elected to fist a point for Glenswilly but Owen Duffy, Aidan Farmer and Shane Coyle stretched the Latton lead with 10 minutes left.

But a great closing rally by the home side yielded points, from Michael Murphy (2), Gibbons and Brian Farrelly but Latton just held on.
