McGurn lands Clare role

Published 29/09/2010

Clare football boss Michael McDermott has pulled off a coup by securing the services of renowned fitness coach Mike McGurn.

McGurn, who has worked with the Irish rugby team, the Irish International Rules squad and the Armagh senior footballers, was involved in a peripheral role with the county last season.

And McDermott is also planning a player recruitment drive, targeting prospects in Dublin who are of Clare parentage. "There are two lads who are playing with St Brigid's in Dublin and I went up to see them at the weekend, that would fit the category. David O'Connor is one, he's a young guy and the other guy is Colin Lynch," he said.

The manager added: "The rule applies to a county that hasn't won a provincial title in the last 10 years. We fit the bill there."
