Quinn Insurance yesterday launched a ground breaking six figure sponsorship deal with the Ulster GAA Writers Association.

The lucrative five year package includes sponsorship of the monthly merit and annual awards.

The Quinn Insurance Ulster GAA Writers Awards reinforces the company's proud tradition of supporting Gaelic Games both locally and nationally.

Quinn-group Director Donal Rourke said: “Quinn Insurance and Quinn Group have a long standing relationship with the GAA and we didn’t hesitate when approached earlier this year to take up this sponsorship.

“We feel the next five years will be mutually beneficial to both parties and we very much look forward to working with the Ulster GAA Writers and the Ulster GAA”

Jerry Quinn, chairman of the GAA Writers said:”Today is something of a rebirth for the Ulster GAA Writers Association after 22 years.

“This is a most generous sponsorship with a five year term and it comes from a rich GAA tradition.

“I have to acknowledge the great contribution that the Ulster Council of the GAA and in particular, secretary Danny Murphy played in negotiating the deal which is absolutely wonderful in these times of financial restrictions.

“Sear Quinn has always been a big GAA man and we owe him a very big thank you to both him and his company for agreeing to sponsor the Ulster GAA Writers Association for the next five years.

“We will make every effort to ensure that the Quinn Insurance group get the best value we can give them for their excellent sponsorship.”

Belfast Telegraph GAA correspondent John Campbell, who played a central role in negotiating the sponsorship deal, said: “The deal marked a milestone in the history of the GAA Writers and hopefully it will ensure an even more vibrant and progressive association.”

The Ulster GAA Writers Association was formed in May 1988 with the sole purpose of increasing public interest in the sport.

All members of the Association are full time working journalists dealing with GAA matters both locally and nationally.

The Quinn Insurance Ulster GAA Writers monthly merit award is made to those within the GAA whom the Association feel have done something special during a particular month.

It’s an award that can go to anyone within the GAA, football, hurling, camogie and handball.

Quinn Insurance is the financial arm of the Quinn Group and is a leading provider of general and health insurance, investments and pensions in both Ireland and the UK.
