New hooter system to be tested

GAA president Christy Cooney has confirmed that a new hooter system will be trialled in next season's National Leagues.

The Central Competitions Control Committee will be responsible for coming up with the perfect system, which will be similar to that currently in operation in ladies football.

"The CCCC are working to ensure that in grounds where our National League matches are played, hooters will be in place," said Cooney.

The system will take time-keeping out of the hands of referees, and signal the end of games following notification by the fourth official of the finishing time and added time to be played.

It will be used in the upcoming International Rules series between Ireland and Australia.
