NFL Division Two: Antrim rocked by slick Donegal
Donegal 1-17 Antrim 1-8: Donegal took a huge step towards promotion when they had little difficulty in overcoming Antrim at Fr Tierney Park, Ballyshannon.
But they might still need a draw from their last game away to Laois next Sunday to be absolutely sure of promotion back to Division One.
As for Antrim, they will need to defeat Derry in their final game to have any hope of avoiding the drop back to Division Three.
Donegal always looked like being winners against a Saffrons side which was depleted by injury and suspension with Colm McFadden in illuminating form.
After his great display two weeks earlier away to Derry, McFadden was on fire again and involved in everything as Donegal played into a strong breeze
At times it seemed as if it was Donegal who had the breeze as they hit five points from five different players, making light of the elements.
Antrim gradually got back into the contest thanks mainly to the accuracy of Thomas McCann and by the 23rd minute the Saffrons were back on terms, McCann getting four of their total.
But late points from McFadden and Michael Hegarty sent the Donegal men in 0-8 to 0-6 up at the break.
Donegal went seven clear when Adrian Hanlon and Anthony Thompson combined to put McFadden clear on 54 minutes and the St Michael's man found the net.
Antrim sub Brian Neeson cracked home a great goal within two minutes but Donegal pulled away again with McFadden adding two more points to underline his side’s superiority on the day.
