Peter Canavan makes instant impact at Fermanagh
Peter Canavan's immediate impact as Fermanagh's new football manager was evident when he announced his panel for the McKenna Cup yesterday.
Niall Bogue, Mark Little, Liam Lynch, Shane Lyons, James Sherry and Seamus Quigley were among 11 players who withdrew their services last year when John O'Neill was in charge.
However, they are all included in Canavan's first squad of the year, which also features veterans Barry Owens and Ryan Keenan.
Elsewhere, former Fianna Fail minister Noel Treacy has been elected chairman of Galway's county board.
Treacy won a 114-49 victory over local stalwart John Fahey, who said he was disappointed with the outcome and would not be going forward as a candidate for Connacht Council.
Galway have agreed to recommend two motions from the Corofin club to Connacht Council. Corofin's motions are that no club should play a provincial championship match on their home ground regardless of the county status of the ground.
They also want referees to have taken charge of a county senior final in their own county before they are considered for a provincial final.
An unanswered six-point scoring salvo in the final 10 minutes steered St Kieran's to yet another Leinster trophy yesterday when they came from behind to deny a gallant and unlucky St Brendan's, Birr by 1-11 to 1-6 in the Colleges Senior Hurling 'A' League final.
St Kieran's held a 1-5 to 0-5 lead at the break but Paddy Mullins goal in the 45th minute put the Offaly side in front and they withstood a late rally to secure victory.

Porterfield is one of four Ireland players in a 12-man squad chosen from the ICC Associate and Affiliate teams -- Boyd Rankin, Paul Stirling and young Leinster spinner George Dockrell are the others.
