Queen's made to rue lack of clinical finishing

Queen's University 0-8 GMIT 2-6: Sigerson Cup hosts Queen's crashed to a shock first round defeat to GMIT at the Dub yesterday.

The Belfast university will not be involved in the finals thanks to two goals in the last 10 minutes from GMIT substitutes Shane Hennelly and Aineas Lawless.

The visitors' lead to 0-6 to 0-2 at half-time after Michael Farragher got the last two points before the interval.

Queen's rallied in the third quarter and hit three points to close the gap to a point.

GMIT scored a goal against the run of play in the 52nd minute when substitute Shane Hennelly palmed a fist pass to the net.

Queen's responded but missed easy chances to cut the deficit.

GMIT made the most of those misses when the ball was slipped through to substitute Aineas Lawless and he hit net to dump the hosts out of this year's competition.
