Quigley is the star as Ernemen crush Cats

Kilkenny 0-4 Fermanagh 9-23

Peter Canavan’s Fermanagh bagged nine goals as they strolled to a 9-23 to 0-4 victory over Kilkenny in Freshford yesterday.

From the moment midfielder James Sherry fired home in the third minute it was one way traffic with the Ernemen hitting the back of the Kilkenny net a further five times in the first half.

Canavan’s charges continued to punch holes in the home side’s defence throughout the second half as they moved top of Allianz NFL Division Four.

Canavan shuffled his pack, but full forward Seamus Quigley held on to his position and the Roslea man gave an exhibition of score-taking as he registered 2-12 of his side’s total, 2-8 of which came from play.

Sherry got Fermanagh up and running with a well taken early goal and that was followed by Quigley’s first goal of the day when he fisted to the net.

Half back Brian Cox bagged Fermanagh’s third after 20 minutes and the scores continued to flow with corner back Michael Jones, Paul Ward and Quigley grabbing the other goals as Fermanagh went in at the break with a 6-9 to 0-2 advantage.

The onslaught showed no signs abating in the second half. Substitute Ryan Keenan followed up his goal against London with another two in the second half while Declan McCusker grabbed the last of the goals with a cracking effort.

Points in the second half arrived mainly from Quigley but Daniel Kille, Ryan Keenan and McCusker were among those to also chip in.

With Limerick defeated, Fermanagh now sit top of the table but much tougher tests lie ahead in the coming weeks.
