Slaughtneil book their All-Ireland final passage

Slaughtneil 3-8 - Burgess Duharra 3-6

By Colm Shalvey

Slaughtneil started a momentous few weeks on a high when their camógs qualified for the All-Ireland Club Senior Final with an exciting win over Burgess/Duharra in Inniskeen yesterday.

Spurred on by a huge support, the Derry club led from start to finish as they turned over Tipperary opposition; hitting 3-7 from play in an impressive performance.

Shannon Graham moved the Ulster champions five points clear, but Burgess/Duharra got up and running when Eimear McDonnell found the net.

McDonnell quickly added a point, but Therese Mellon and Graham responded to give Slaughtneil a 1-4 to 1-1 lead at half-time.

Eilís Ní Chaiside created another Slaughtneil goal, which was well taken by Denise McGuigan. Sinéad Mellon put six between the teams, but after McDonnell had a shot saved by Jolene Bradley, Grace converted a '45' and she then powered through for a goal at the end of a fine move started by Trishy O'Halloran.

Siobhán McKaigue's final point and some strong defending saw Slaughtneil through to the final against Sarsfields from Galway. An All-Ireland final also awaits for Eglish after the Tyrone side edged their Intermediate semi-final against Gailltír (Waterford) by 1-5 to 1-4.
