St Colman's Newry claim cup success
St Colman's Newry retained the Hogan Cup title with a 2-10 to 0-15 win over St Jarlath's Tuam in a Croke Park thriller.
St Colman's got off to the best possible start with two goals in the opening 11 minutes from Jack Haughey and Jerome Johnston, and led by 2-4 to 0-8 at the break.
But the Galway side took the lead through Shane Walsh, who finished with a nine points total.
However, the holders finished strongly. Inspirational skipper Connor Gough helped them regain control, and late scores from Mooney, Shay McArdle and Johnston saw them deny Tuam a 13th All-Ireland title.
Also at Croke Park, Galen CS, Ferbane defeated holders Clonakilty CC to win the All-Ireland Vocational Schools football title by 2-11 to 1-7.
A stunning finish to the game produced goals from Aaron McDonagh and Eoghan Lowry to get the better of a Cork side that had led for much of the contest.
Gearoid Barry's 24th-minute goal had given Clonakilty a four-points interval lead, but McDonagh's 1-4 tally and 1-2 from Lowry swung it in the Offaly side's favour.
