Hurling figures from all over Ireland paid their final respects to Tipperary legend, John Doyle, at a crowded Holy Cross Abbey outside Thurles on Friday.
Taoiseach Brian Cowen visited Tipperary earlier, while President May McAleese was represented by her aide de camp.
GAA president Christie Cooney attended the funeral, along with four past Presidents of the Association.
During an inter-county career that spanned three decades John Doyle won eight all-Ireland medals, 11 NHL medals and four Railway Cups.
He is survived by his wife Anne, seven children and 15 grandchildren.
