Tyrone cup tie set to go ahead

Tyrone's Dr McKenna Cup game is set to go ahead at the weekend with the blessing of grieving manager Mickey Harte.

The Red Hands' opening match of the season will be played, under a dark cloud, at Brewster Park in Enniskillen, where they take on Fermanagh on Sunday.

The county board confirmed that the team will fulfil the fixture, just days after the tragic death of Mr Harte's daughter Michaela McAreavey.

However, should Mrs McAreavey's body arrive home in the interim from Mauritius, where she was murdered while on honeymoon, the game will not take place.

The decision to proceed with the Dr McKenna Cup tie was taken after Mr Harte expressed the wish that the players should turn out for the first game of the campaign.
