Tyrone duo call it quits

Tyrone have been dealt a double blow with Brian McGuigan and Philip Jordan announcing their retirement from inter-county football.

It follows on from captain Brian Dooher making the same decision a few weeks ago and leaves two more massive gaps to fill.

Their names were written into Tyrone folklore in 2003 when they defeated Armagh to win the Sam Maguire Cup for the first time.

Ardboe centre-forward McGuigan took a year out to travel but returned to help the Red Hands reclaim the title in '05, winning his only All Star. He came off the bench in the '08 success.

Moy man Jordan played at No 7 and won All Stars in each of the All-Ireland years, then landing a fourth in 2010.

“We will miss their energy and class on the field — they have contributed so much to Tyrone's most successful decade,” said county boss Mickey Harte.
