Tyrone odyssey perfect spur for Trillick

The success attained by Tyrone at various levels last year is viewed as the perfect spur for Trillick’s full-frontal assault on the AIB Intermediate Club Football title by their personable manager Liam Donnelly.

When the Tyrone title came along to be followed by the Ulster crown, Donnelly was naturally delighted.

But even he has been pleasantly surprised by the marked desire of his players to add the All Ireland prize to their laurels.

Tomorrow Trillick go in against Kerry and Munster champions St Michael’s, Foilmore determined to do Tyrone and Ulster proud.

“These boys are absolutely dedicated to getting more success, there’s no way they are simply going to rest on what they have achieved to date. They are putting in a huge effort and I can’t ask for anything more than that,” points out former Tyrone Minor and Under 21 boss Donnelly.

Last year, St Patrick’s Academy Dungannon kick-started what proved to be a momentous year for Tyrone by winning both the MacRory Cup and Hogan Cup.

The glorious O’Neill County odyssey culminated in that epic All Ireland final victory by Mickey Harte’s men over Kerry.

Now Trillick are happy to try and take a leaf from their county cohorts’ book.

“The boys feel that the gauntlet has been thrown down to them and they are ready to respond in style. For us to be going in against a Kerry side is a real challenge but we are up for it,” raps manager Donnelly.

Monaghan champions Drumhowan are similarly fired up for their All Ireland Junior Club semi-final against Skellig Rangers.

They looked impressive in winning both their county and provincial titles but are aware that they face a huge test.

“While we were delighted to be crowned Ulster champions, we feel we will be letting ourselves down if we don’t get a result tomorrow. We have not lost our focus since the Ulster final - in fact, we have brought our commitment to a new level,” says a club spokesman.

Blame for this awful mess lies squarely with Capello

Unusually for Fabio Capello, a man who owns some highly valued pieces of art but is not given to too many flights of poetic fancy, he once said that he had a dream. It was right at the start of his England reign and it was that he would lead his team into the final of the World Cup in Johannesburg.
