Tyrone star Cavanagh is finally the ace of club and county
Wednesday, 17 December 2008
Big Sean Cavanagh will be sorry to see the back of 2008.
For it was a year the man with the Midas touch could do no wrong and even deep into December the action man was still weaving his own unique brand of magic leading his club Moy back to senior football.
Cavanagh and his colleagues had to beat Trillick, Ulster intermediate champions, if they were to reclaim senior status and a five points victory was good enough to see them back in the top flight.
It was no surprise that the 25 year old accountant was again a central figure in his club's success landing four crucial points.
Honours have come thick and fast for Cavanagh in an unforgettable season and this latest success was especially significant.
"It's always that wee bit special when you achieve something with your club. I've been fortunate to win a number of honours this season, but this is the first time I won a cup with my club. It's been a fantastic year, but to win something with your best friends and guys have grown up with makes it that wee bit extra special," he said.
Victory was sweet revenge for Moy who lost to Trillick in the IFC decider and it speaks volumes for their character that they bounced back.
Cavanagh's latest success came only hours after he was named BBC Northern Ireland's Sports Personality of the Year. Man of the match in the All Ireland final, he also led Ireland to glory in the International Rules in Australia as well as winning All Star and GPA gongs for good measure.
