Ulster Vocational Schools' semi-final: Rampant Donegal march into final

By Damian Mellon

Tyrone 2-09 Donegal 4-10: Reigning All-Ireland champions Donegal are just 60 minutes away from retaining their Ulster Vocational Schools’ title after a hugely impressive seven point victory over Tyrone in Convoy yesterday.

The holders struck for a goal after only five minutes and while Tyrone hit back to level thanks to points from Mark Bradley and Sean Hackett it was Donegal who always had the upper hand.

Senior star Patrick McBrearty cracked in a brilliant individual goal and added a point for good measure as his side led 2-4 to 0-6 at half-time.

Within five minutes of the restart McBrearty had tagged on another three points and while Tyrone responded with a well taken score from Hackett they were always playing catch up.

Full forward Conor Greene scored a tenth minute goal to leave nine between the sides and the writing was on the wall for Tyrone.

Mark Bradley did pull a goal back for the Red Hands but within three minutes Cathal McGettigan had replied in kind at the other end of the field to keep their opponents at arms length.

Bradley then scored his second goal of the afternoon when he converted a penalty after being fouled by Christopher Cunningham.

However, it was only academic at that stage of the showdown as the brilliant McBrearty took his personal haul to 1-6 with a late point.
