Giants pull ahead with win

Belfast Giants beat Nottingham Panthers 2-1 at the Odyssey Arena to move clear at the top of the Rapid Solicitors Elite League.

Defenceman Robby Sandrock put the Giants ahead in sixth minute, but Bryan Schmidt levelled before the end of the first period. After a scoreless second period, Evan Cheverie's goal proved decisive.

Braehead Clan, who had been level on points with the Giants, suffered a 4-1 defeat at Sheffield Steelers, with centre Tyler Mosienko plundering a hat-trick.

Cardiff Devils produced a late rally with three goals in the final period to defeat Dundee Stars 5-4, while at Murrayfield Ice Rink there was a 4-3 win for Edinburgh Capitals over Fife Flyers with a late goal from left wing Richard Hartmann.
