Austrian Open: Graeme McDowell primed to make move on leader
Tour rookie John Parry, 23, from Yorkshire, breezed into a one stroke lead at the Austrian Open with a faultless second round 67 but most eyes were fixed on Ryder Cup comrades Graeme McDowell and Miguel Angel Jimenez at The Diamond Country Club.
US Open champion McDowell yesterday added a polished second round 68 to Thursday's 67 to share second place with Jose Manuel Lara of Spain and Sweden's Pelle Edberg on seven-under.
If the Portrush hero finds the pace of his medium and long range putts, it's difficult to see anyone barring his path to a third European Tour title in three months, even if Jimenez rediscovered good scoring form during yesterday's 68, which left him tied 17th on four-under.
Simon Thornton was still clipping along nicely in 10th on five-under after his second round 70. Damien McGrane tumbled down the leaderboard to one-under with a disappointing 76, while a birdie at 16 and a round of 72 helped Gary Murphy through the cut on one over.
