Curtis ready to strike again

Ben Curtis produced arguably the biggest shock in Open history when he won at Sandwich in 2003, but six years on he has his sights on a second Claret Jug.

Now 27th in the world - he was 396th when he took advantage of Thomas Bjorn's collapse from three ahead with four to play - Curtis matched Tom Watson's 65 on the opening day at Turnberry.

They are the last two debutants to win The Open.

After four birdies in the last six holes Curtis said: ““I'd like to think if I was in this position heading into Sunday that I'd be able to handle it well and be able to go out there and play well.”
