Dolan takes Jack Magowan trophy

Published 03/09/2009

Press golfers recently competed for the Jack Magowan Trophy, in memory of the distinguished former Belfast Telegraph golf and boxing correspondent who died in April.

The trophy, a beautiful Tyrone Crystal putter, was presented after the Press Golf Society outing at the Lough Erne resort by Jack’s son Simon (left) to the winner, photo-journalist Frank Dolan.

Simon swam in the Commonwealth Games in Edmonton, Canada in 1978, and in Brisbane, Australia in 1982.

A doctor by profession, he has lived in Cincinatti, Ohio, since 1986 and is currently medical director for Proctor and Gamble’s gastro-intestinal division.

He and his wife Anoop have two sons, Simran (19) and Kirran (12). Simran has just started at Wake Forest University in North Carolina, whose famous students have included Arnold Palmer.
